Managers with the View & Assign Goal permission enabled have the ability to create individual goals for their learners.
If you have not already checked which are the available goal types, please check them here first!
Creating a Goal
In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Team Workspace.
When in the Team Workspace, select Goals and then select Team Member Goals.
Here you can create and manage individual (team) goals.
There are three tabs on this page — Open, Completed, and Archived. The content of each page is similar, only differing in the state of the goal.
To create a goal, select Create goal in the top right.
Select if you want the goal to follow the assignees in any organizational or/and job change or if it should stay only with the assignees who match the assignment criteria- practically, select what should happen if the user loses this org level and job.
In the This goal will section, choose between two options, each with helper text explaining how oversight of the goal behaves:
- Follow — This goal is associated with the selected team member, not their job. Their current manager or managers oversee it, and this updates automatically if their manager changes.
- Stay — This goal stays with the assignee's role from when the goal was created. The manager or managers of that role at the time the goal was created oversee it, even if the assignee later moves.
You are then able to assign this goal to individuals or by criteria, as done elsewhere in the system.
Enter a title, then write your goal description. The description field is a full rich-text editor, so you can format the text as needed; it does not support attaching images or video.
Define the goal's type (numeric or not, increasing or not, and so on), and set its current and target values.
If Pillars are enabled for your academy, select a Pillar to connect the goal to it. Once a Pillar is chosen, the Area dropdown shows a Select Area placeholder along with the Areas that belong to that Pillar. Choosing an Area is optional — you can save the goal without one. If Pillars are turned off for your academy, the Pillar dropdown is not shown.
Set the Start date and Due date using the date pickers. The Start date cannot be earlier than today, and past dates are unavailable. The two dates work together: the Start date can be any date up to the Due date, the Due date can be any date from the Start date onward, and the two can be the same day. You cannot set a range where the Start date falls after the Due date. If you change one date so the other no longer fits, that other field is cleared and you'll need to pick it again.
The goal's supervisor — the manager who oversees it alongside you — is determined automatically from your academy's organizational structure, based on the assignee and the role the goal is assigned for. There is no longer a manual selector for choosing the supervisor. Oversight also updates on its own over time, so if someone changes role or the position is filled by someone new, the goal moves to the right manager without any manual clean-up.
Save when finished.
Reviewing a Team Goal
Select the goal's title to start reviewing the goal.
Editing a Team Goal
To edit a goal, select its associated Edit goal button.
When you edit an existing goal, some parts of the setup are shown for reference and can't be changed. The This goal will section is read-only on edit. The audience section is titled Assigned to* and is also read-only: for a Stay goal it shows the assignee's name and the role or org node the goal is assigned to, and for a Follow goal it shows the assignee's name only.
If you choose to delete a goal that isn't weighted, a confirmation asks Delete this goal? with the note This can't be undone. If you archive a goal that isn't weighted, the confirmation asks Archive this goal? with the note Once archived, it can't be edited.
Please also note:
- In order to be able to create and assign goals, it is a prerequisite that both you and the assignees have a job assigned.
- Once a goal is being saved & assigned, the involved employees get an email and an in-app notification if you have enabled them for your academy - Read also: Goals Notifications
