Understanding Self-Administration Restrictions for Admins and Managers

Use Case Scenario

Why can't I mark myself as completed via a template, even though I'm an Admin?

Users with permission to upload course or learning path templates—including Admins, Training Managers, and Managers—are not allowed to mark themselves as completed through templates.

This means that if you upload a template that includes yourself as a user to be marked as completed, the system will automatically ignore that entry for you.

You can verify this in the 'Course Data Import Failed' notification that you will receive. The report includes a column for failed rows, titled 'Unsuccessful Status Explanation'.

This safeguard is in place to maintain the integrity of training records.

If you need to be marked as completed for a specific course or learning path, another Admin or a user with the appropriate permissions will need to mark you as completed on your behalf.

This ensures a clear separation of responsibilities and avoids any conflicts that could arise from self-certifying training completions.

Additional Restrictions on Self-Administration by Managers

Managers cannot perform the following actions on themselves if the course or learning path was assigned by another user:

  • Unassign training
  • Oblige to retake
  • Update due date
  •

Allowed Actions

Managers can perform the above actions on themselves only if:

  • They assigned the course/learning path to themselves, or

  • They self-enrolled in the course/learning path.

Managing Other Users

Managers retain the ability to perform these actions on other users within their organizational structure, regardless of who originally assigned the training.
