Why Aren’t Embedded Videos or Voiceovers Playing in My Uploaded PowerPoint Lecture?

Use case

When uploading a PowerPoint presentation as a lecture in a course, you may notice that embedded media—such as videos and voiceovers included in specific slides—do not play as expected during the presentation.

Understanding the Behavior

This behavior is intentional and by design. While the system successfully uploads and displays the PowerPoint slides, it does not support playback of embedded video files or slide-specific audio recordings (voiceovers). As such, these media elements will not function when the presentation is viewed by learners through the platform.

At this time, there is no functionality available to enable playback of embedded multimedia within PowerPoint files uploaded as course lectures.

Recommended Workarounds

If your presentation includes important video or audio components, we recommend considering one of the following approaches:

1. Use a SCORM Package

Convert your PowerPoint presentation into a SCORM-compliant package using an authoring tool. SCORM packages are fully supported and can retain embedded media functionality, offering a more interactive and complete learning experience.

2. Upload the Video Separately

If your PowerPoint includes a video, you can upload the video file separately to the course as a:

  • Video Lecture, or
  • Web Resource, by linking to an external video URL (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo)

These options ensure that the video content remains accessible and functional for learners.
