Why Aren’t Prerequisite Courses Automatically Unassigned When the Primary Course Is Removed by an Automated Rule?

Overview

This article explains the expected behavior when users are automatically unassigned from a course due to no longer matching an Automated Rule’s criteria, while the course’s prerequisites remain assigned.

Scenario

  • A user was initially assigned a course, along with its prerequisites, through an Automated Rule.
  • Subsequently, the user no longer met the criteria specified in the rule.
  • As a result, the primary course was automatically unassigned in accordance with the following setting.

  • However, the prerequisite courses remained assigned to the user.

Explanation

This behavior is intentional and aligns with the current system design. At this time, there is no mechanism available to automatically unassign prerequisite courses when the primary course assignment is removed due to changes in Automated Rule eligibility criteria. As a result, any prerequisites associated with the course will remain assigned to the user.

If it is necessary to remove these prerequisites, they will need to be unassigned separately.
