Overview
In some cases, you may notice that a question you have deleted from an exam still appears to certain learners. This article explains why this happens and what you can expect.
Scenario
You have removed a question from an exam by deleting it under the Edit Questions page. However, a learner reports that they can still see the deleted question when they resume their attempt.
Why This Happens
When a learner begins an exam attempt and chooses to skip a question, the platform saves their progress. If the learner later clicks Resume, the system reloads all questions from their most recent attempt—including any questions that were subsequently deleted by the exam author.
This behavior ensures that learners can complete an attempt exactly as they left it, maintaining consistency in their exam experience.
Who Is Affected
- Learners resuming a previous attempt started before the question was deleted will still see and need to answer the question.
- Learners starting a new attempt after the deletion will not see the removed question.
Summary
This is expected behavior designed to protect the integrity of in-progress exam attempts. Deleted questions are no longer available to any new attempts, but they remain visible to learners resuming an earlier session.
