When you take training in Schoox, the Next and Back buttons help you move through the steps of a Course. If you are completing a Course that belongs to a Learning Path, you may notice that these buttons appear in some places and not in others.
This article explains when you will see the Next and Back buttons, when you will not, and how to continue navigating through your Learning Path.
Understanding How Navigation Works
Courses and Learning Paths are structured differently.
A Course is designed as a step-by-step learning experience. You can move through the Course’s items, such as lectures, exams, events, polls, or on-the-job training items.
A Learning Path is a collection of Courses. Each Course inside the Learning Path has its own steps, and you complete each Course as part of the overall Learning Path.
Because of this structure, the Next and Back buttons are available at the Course step level, not at the overall Learning Path level.
When You Will See the Next Button
You will see the Next button when there is another step available within the same Course.
For example, the Next button may appear while you are viewing:
- A lecture
- An exam
- An event
- A poll
- An on-the-job training item
Selecting Next takes you to the next step in that same Course.
For example, if a Course includes five steps, you can expect to see the Next button on the first four steps. On the fifth and final step, the Next button is not displayed because there are no additional steps within that Course.
When You Will See the Back Button
You will see the Back button when there is a previous step available within the same Course.
Selecting Back takes you to the previous step in that same Course.
For example, if a Course includes five steps, you can expect to see the Back button from the second step onward. On the first step, the Back button is not displayed because there is no previous step within that Course.
How This Works Inside a Learning Path
When you access a Course through a Learning Path, the Next and Back buttons continue to work within the Course you are currently viewing.
This means:
- Next moves you to the next step inside the same Course.
- Back moves you to the previous step inside the same Course.
- Next does not automatically move you from the last step of one Course to the first step of the next Course in the Learning Path.
- Back does not automatically move you from the first step of one Course to the last step of the previous Course in the Learning Path.
Example
Let’s say your Learning Path includes two Courses:
Course A
- Lecture 1
- Lecture 2
- Exam
Course B
- Lecture 1
- Lecture 2
While you are in Course A:
- On Lecture 1, you may see Next, but not Back.
- On Lecture 2, you may see both Next and Back.
- On the Exam, you may see Back, but not Next.
After you complete the Exam in Course A, you can return to the Learning Path and select Course B to continue.
While you are in Course B:
- On Lecture 1, you may see Next, but not Back.
- On Lecture 2, you may see Back, but not Next.
How to Continue in the Learning Path
After you reach the final step of a Course, return to the Learning Path view and select the next Course available to you. This lets you continue through the Learning Path while completing each Course as its own guided learning experience.
Key Takeaway
You will see the Next button when there is another step available inside the same Course.
You will see the Back button when there is a previous step available inside the same Course.
When you are taking a Course as part of a Learning Path, these buttons help you move within the Course you are currently viewing. To move between Courses, return to the Learning Path and select the Course you want to continue with.
