Linking Courses to a Goal
You can connect courses directly to a goal so the people working toward that goal have the right training linked in one place. How you do this depends on where you are working: managers link courses from the Team Workspace, and learners add courses to their own goals from the Learner Workspace. In both cases the courses live on the goal's Courses tab, and linking a course also handles the enrollment for the goal's assignee, so training and progress stay tied to the goal.
Every goal — Team, Organizational, or Personal — has a Courses tab, and a Back to {goal type} goal button at the top of that tab returns you to the tab you came from (Open, Archived, or Completed).
Linking Courses as a Manager in the Team Workspace
In the Team Workspace, Navigate to Goals. Select a goal's title, then its Courses tab.
If you are the creator or supervisor of the goal and your job has the assign-training permission, you will see an Assign to goal option on this tab.
If you can see goals for other users (for example as an Admin or HR Manager) but do not have the assign-training permission, the Assign to goal option and the Remove from goal action are not shown to you — you can view the linked courses but not change them.
Assigning Courses to the Goal
After selecting Assign to goal, you will be shown the courses you have access to assign. Check each appropriate course's box, and select Assign to goal at the bottom of the modal.
Because the training is being assigned through the goal, the assignee of each course is always the assignee of the goal — you are assigning the selected courses to the person (or people) the goal already belongs to, not choosing separate recipients.
Once you confirm the selection, a confirmation message lets you know the assignment succeeded: The course(s) have been assigned to the team and linked to the goal.
Understanding How Enrollment Is Handled
When you assign courses to a goal, how each course is handled depends on the assignee's current relationship to that course:
- If the assignee is already assigned to the course, the course is only linked to the goal — nothing changes about their existing assignment.
- If the assignee is self-enrolled in the course, the course is linked to the goal and their enrollment becomes an assignment — the enrollment reason changes to Assigned by manager.
- If the assignee is neither enrolled nor assigned, they are assigned to the course and the course is linked to the goal.
Reading the Courses List
The Courses tab lists every course that has been assigned or self-enrolled through the goal. Each course shows the following:
- Course title — selecting it opens the course in a new tab. Depending on whether you are enrolled, this takes you to either the course's About page or the course experience.
- Progress — the progress bar shows the average progress across everyone the goal is assigned to for that course. For example, if the goal is assigned to two people and one of them has completed the course while the other has not started, the course shows 50% progress. An info icon next to the progress bar opens a per-member view listing each assigned team member on the goal, their profile picture, their name, and their individual progress on that course.
- Status — shows whether the course is Assigned or Self-enrolled.
- Remove from goal — unlinks the course from the goal. Removing a course from a goal does not unassign it from the learners who were assigned it; they keep the course and their progress, it is simply no longer connected to this goal. You need the appropriate permission (based on your academy's settings) to remove a course.
Adding Courses to a Goal as a Learner in the Learner Workspace
In the Learner Workspace, your goals are located under Development.
Select the appropriate goal, and open the goal's Courses tab.
If you have access to the catalog in your academy, you will see an Add Course option on a personal goal you created, or on an organizational or team goal that is assigned to you.
Select Add Course to open the course selector. It has two tabs — My courses (the default) and Courses catalog — and you can select more than one course before adding.
Choosing from the My Courses Tab
The My courses tab shows the courses you are already working on — the same list you see under My training > In progress for courses. You can search this list, and sort and filter it to find what you need.
Sort options on the My courses tab:
- Priority (lowest to highest, or highest to lowest)
- Due date (oldest to newest, or newest to oldest) — this is the default sort
- Progress (least to most, or most to least)
- Assignment date (oldest to newest, or newest to oldest)
Filter options on the My courses tab: Enrollment type, Preferences, Due dates, Categories, Language, and Objectives.
Choosing from the Courses Catalog Tab
The Courses catalog tab shows the courses available to you in the catalog. As with My courses, you can search, sort, and filter to find what you want to add.
Sort options on the Courses catalog tab:
- Alphabetical (A–Z or Z–A)
- Creation date (oldest to newest, or newest to oldest)
- Update date (oldest to newest, or newest to oldest)
- Priority (lowest to highest, or highest to lowest) — highest to lowest is the default sort
Filter options on the Courses catalog tab: Preferences, Categories, Language, Objectives, and Skills.
Confirming and Completing the Add
After selecting one or more courses, select Add course. A confirmation modal explains what will happen, and the wording depends on which tab you added from:
- From the Courses catalog tab, where you are not yet enrolled: You'll be enrolled in the course(s) and they'll link to your goal.
- From the My courses tab, where you are already enrolled: The course(s) will link with your goal.
Confirm the modal to finish. A success message then confirms it worked: The course(s) have been added to your goal.
Removing a Course You Added
You can remove a course that you added to the goal at any time from the Courses tab. Removing a course from a goal only unlinks it — it does not drop your enrollment, so you keep the course and your progress.
Working with Existing Suggested Courses
The older Suggest a course action is no longer available — courses are now connected to a goal through Assign to goal (managers) or Add Course (learners).
Any courses that were previously suggested on a goal remain visible on the Courses tab, unchanged. They carry a Suggested (legacy) label, and hovering over the status shows the note: Suggested courses are no longer supported. Remove and re-add this course to assign it to the goal's assignee. To turn a suggested course into an assigned one, remove it and add it back — through Assign to goal if you are a manager, or Add Course if you are a learner — and it then follows the standard linking behavior described above.
