Release date 11 November
Your LinkedIn Learning courses can now bring their skills along with them. With the new Sync LinkedIn skills setting, the skills LinkedIn associates with your LinkedIn Learning courses are added to your academy, mapped to the courses they come from, and kept up to date, so you no longer have to recreate and maintain them by hand. The setting is off by default, so you decide when LinkedIn skills start appearing in your academy.
Feature Highlights
One Setting, Full Control. Turn on Sync LinkedIn skills in your LinkedIn Learning integration settings whenever you are ready. Turning it off pauses the sync and keeps every skill already added.
Skills Added and Mapped for You. LinkedIn skills are created as active skills in a LinkedIn skills group and automatically mapped to their LinkedIn courses.
A LinkedIn Origin Tag Next to the Skill Name. LinkedIn skills are labeled in the Active Skills list, so you can tell them apart from the skills you created yourself.
Skill Title and Languages Kept in Sync. LinkedIn manages these two fields so they stay accurate, while the rest of the skill stays yours to edit.
LinkedIn Skills Work Like Any Other Skill. Map them to your own courses and to jobs, and see them counted alongside the rest of your skills.
Sync LinkedIn Skills Setting
Find the Sync LinkedIn skills toggle under Academy Settings > Training > External content providers > LinkedIn Learning. It is off for every academy by default, including academies that already use LinkedIn Learning and Skills. It is shown only when Skills Management is available for your academy.
When you turn the setting on, skills for your existing LinkedIn courses are added in the background, so they appear once the process finishes rather than the moment you turn the setting on. Your LinkedIn courses themselves are not changed, and skills for courses that sync later are added automatically.
When you turn the setting off, the skill sync pauses. Skills already in your academy stay, and nothing is archived or unarchived automatically.
LinkedIn Skills in Manage Skills
LinkedIn skills appear in the Active Skills list under Development Admin > Skills > Manage Skills with a LinkedIn origin tag next to the skill name, and they are gathered in an automatically created LinkedIn skills group. Each skill is also mapped to the LinkedIn courses it comes from, so your skill library and your course mappings stay aligned with LinkedIn Learning.
Title and Languages Managed by LinkedIn
The skill title and languages of a LinkedIn skill are greyed out and cannot be edited, and a tooltip explains why when you hover over either field. When LinkedIn updates a skill, the change comes through at the next sync. Everything else about the skill, including its description, group, and category, remains editable.
Mapping and Archiving
Connections that LinkedIn created between a skill and a LinkedIn course are protected, so their unmap control is disabled and a tooltip explains why. You stay in control of everything else: you can map LinkedIn skills to your own courses and to jobs, unmap those mappings whenever you like, and decide which skills to archive.
