Creating and Managing Leaderboards

Leaderboards add friendly competition to your academy. The more active one is, the more points are earned. The more points earned, the higher the rank on the leaderboard.

Leaderboard Settings

To utilize leaderboard, you need to make sure the module is activated first.

In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Social Workspace.

When in the Social Workspace, select Settings.

Under the Gamification Settings, you have a few options.

Navigating to and Hiding Leaderboards

Leaderboards can be found in the Social Workspace.

In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Social Workspace.

When in the Social Workspace, select Game Center -> Leaderboards.

Several leaderboards have already been created. If the default sets do not fit your needs, you can build your own custom leaderboards.

There are seven different pre-loaded leaderboards: Discoverer, Collector, Influencer, Team Builder, Learner, Social Folk, and Instructor. These leaderboards cannot be deleted, but you have the option to hide these leaderboards if you'd rather not use them.

Leaderboards are either Active or saved as a Draft. When a leaderboard is created, it gathers points, no matter if it is active.

Leaderboards in Draft are not visible to learners, and do not count towards the Academy Score in a learners profile until they are made active. When they are made active, points will be added retroactively.

To toggle between Activated and Draft, click on the three dots next to the leaderboard and set the status.

Creating a New Leaderboard

To create a new leaderboard for your academy, select the Create Leaderboard button.

Step 1: Fill out the details of your leaderboard.

Title: Leaderboard name.
Type: Academy (everyone) or Limited (a selection based on the organizational structure)
All team members can view this leaderboard: Even if the leaderboard is limited, everyone can see it.
Points earned will count toward team members' academy scores: Points count for the Academy Total Score found on users' profiles.
Reset leaderboard automatically: Resets the score for the leaderboard
Reset period: How often it resets.

Step 2: Add activities that count towards this leaderboard.

Activity: The activity.

Instructor Points: The points the training instructor gets when the activity is completed.

Learner Points: Points awarded to the learner who completes the activity.

Advanced options: Select either all or a selection of training to award points.

The general categories of the available activities are the following ones:

  • Learner Activities
  • Instructor Activities
  • Content Sharing Activities
  • Social Activities

    Notes:
  • The activities must have at least one role with non-zero points
  • You can add as many activities as you need
  • Many activities when performed provide points to multiple members, depending on their role. For example, when a member completes a course he earns points as a Learner but at the same time, you can choose for the Instructor of the course to earn points as well.
  • In many activities (such as Complete a SCORM Lecture), you have the option to define the points that should be awarded per minute as well as the max points that can be awarded.
  • Points are only allocated for one activity at a time. If there are two ways to get points from the same activity, you'll only earn the highest awarded points. For example: if you earn 5 points for completing a course and 10 points for earning a skill awarded for completing a course, you'll only earn 10 points total.

Step 3: Decide who is partaking in this leaderboard. If it is a limited leaderboard, you are forced to make a selection, if it is an Academy leaderboard you can select everyone.

Step 4: Publish the leaderboard, save it as a draft, or schedule it to be published later.

Step 5: Double check the details.

Select Activate (or Save as Draft, or Schedule, depending on step 4) to publish your leaderboard!

  • As an Admin, have the option to enable notifications that will inform the user about the points he earned for each one of the activities and motivate them to climb the rankings! You can learn more about these notifications here: Social Workspace Notifications
