Creating a Personal Goal

If your Academy Admin has enabled the option for learners to create personal goals, you can create goals for yourself in the Academy. Personal goals allow you to set objectives and track your own development. Please note that you must have a job assigned in the system in order to create personal goals. Your goals will be associated with your job, which means your manager may be able to view them.

If you are an Academy Admin and want to set up this functionality, please read: Enabling Goals Management in Your Academy

Navigation

In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Learner Workspace.

When in the Learner Workspace, select Development and then select Goals.

 Creating a Personal Goal

On this page, you can navigate between your Open, Completed, and Archived goals using the available tabs.

To create a new goal, ensure you are on the Open tab (the default landing tab), and then select the “+ Add Goal” icon.

This directs you to the page where you can set up your goal.

  • Select the job this goal is related to. Most people will only have one job to select here.
  • Add a name for your goal.
  • Add a short description for your goal.
  • Decide if the goal is numeric (tracked by numbers) or not (tracked by % complete)
  • If Numeric, decide if the goal is increasing or decreasing: is the end goal lower or higher than your starting value?
  • Decide whether the goal is continuous: when the goal is completed, does this goal need to stay at the same value during its entire duration?
  • Decide if the goal is part of a pillar, and if so, which one.
  • Set the start and due date for the goal.
  • Set how you will measure the goal. This can be anything from USD, %, Courses Taken - what does the number represent?
  • Set the starting value, your current value, and the target value.

If you have selected a pillar that has been set as weighted, you will see a Goal weight field.

The total goal weight must equal 100%, so if only one goal is present, it will equal 100%.

If you select a different pillar where personal goals were previously added, the Goal weight will initially be set to 0%.

Next, click the Save and Edit Weight button. A modal window will then appear, prompting you to adjust the percentage values.

Click on Save to finish the goal.

Managing your Personal Goal

When you are on the Goals page and click on the name of a goal, it will open the Goal Management page.

This page provides an overview of your goal and includes the Team Chat, where actions related to the goal are logged and team members with access can communicate.

It also allows you to create tasks, which function as task lists to keep you on track; upload files and links relevant to the goal, and add courses related to the goal.

Tasks and courses do not automatically update your goal progress. The only way to update goal progress is by clicking the Update button on the About page.
