Scenario
You may notice that learners receive email notifications when assigned a course via an automated rule, even though the relevant notification under the Academy’s notification settings is disabled.
Explanation
This behavior is expected due to the notification setting available within the assignment configuration itself.
When creating an assignment—either manually or through an automated rule—the assigner (e.g., a manager or admin) has the option to manually override the general academy notification settings by selecting the checkbox:
If this checkbox is selected, the system will send a notification email to learners, regardless of the academy-level notification being turned off.
This ensures that assigners have full control over whether or not their specific assignment triggers an email, even when global notifications are disabled for that particular event.
Important Note:
If the checkbox is not selected, and the academy notification is disabled, no email will be sent.
If the checkbox is selected, the email will be sent regardless of the global notification setting.
Recommendation
If you want to avoid learners receiving email notifications for automated assignments, ensure that the checkbox to send notifications is not selected when setting up the rule or performing the assignment.
