Utilizing the Homepage Workspace

If you would like learners to see the Homepage Workspace as their default landing page, you can configure this by enabling the corresponding option within the Academy Workspace settings.

To update this setting, please follow the steps outlined below.

In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Academy Workspace.

When in the Academy Workspace, select Academy Admin for all Academy Administration options.

Select Configuration and then General.

On that page, navigate to the Homepage Editor tab and toggle Make web homepage visible.

This is an optional workspace that can be customized with a variety of gadgets to support different teams within your organization or specific roles in your hierarchy.

Once the Homepage Workspace is enabled, it will become the only option available as the default workspace, and no other workspace can be selected for this purpose.

You can verify this setting by navigating to:
Profile (icon) > Settings > Privacy and Preferences > View Privacy and Preferences > Landing Page.

Homepage configuration

By default, two configuration options are available and can be customized:

  • Admins, training managers, and members with management jobs

  • All members without management jobs

In addition to the default options, up to 50 custom configurations can be created and assigned based on your organizational structure.

The following gadgets are available for custom configuration: Announcements, Courses in progress, Events overview, Featured courses, Featured learning paths, Games, HTML (when enabled in the academy), High priority announcements, Leaderboards, Learner's pending on-the-job training, Learning paths in progress, My Annotations, My Compliance Training, My Groups, My analytics snapshot, Overdue, Shortcuts, Suggested Groups, Upcoming Due Dates, Upcoming events.

Please note that gadgets labeled as Managers Only are not available for custom configuration. These include: Learning Path Status by Learner, Manage On-the-Job Training, and My Team's Quick Dashboard.

Configurations and Gadget Behavior

Each user will only see one configuration. Configurations can be arranged in order of priority. If a user is assigned to more than one configuration, only the first configuration in the list (from top to bottom) will be displayed.

  • Example: If a user is both a Head Of and a Supervisor, they will only see the Head Of configuration, if it is higher on the list.

If a user does not match any customized configuration, they will automatically be shown either the management or non-management default configuration.

To prevent users from rearranging gadgets on their homepage, select the Lock Homepage gadget order for all team members checkbox. Selecting this checkbox also hides the Reset gadget order option described below from learners homepages.

Otherwise, users will be able to rearrange the order of their Homepage gadgets according to their preference.

Default Sorting and Resizing Gadgets

Gadgets that support it — courses in progress, learning paths in progress, featured courses, featured learning paths, overdue, my compliance training, upcoming due dates, events overview, and upcoming events — include a Select default sorting option (or Select default filter, for events overview) in the Homepage editor, so you can choose what learners see first.

Each gadget can also be switched between full and half width using the arrow button in its top corner. Half-size gadgets sit side by side, so more of them fit on the screen at once. This option is available for every gadget except Learning Path Status by Learner.

On their own homepage, learners can change the sorting on courses in progress, learning paths in progress, featured courses, featured learning paths, overdue, and upcoming events using the same dropdown, starting from the default you set. Their selection is remembered the next time they visit the page.

A Reset gadget order option appears above the gadgets whenever the homepage is not locked, more than one gadget is visible, and the learner has moved a gadget away from its default position. Selecting it restores the layout you defined for that configuration.

To make the mobile app home screen available to learners, ensure that the “Make mobile app home screen visible” toggle is enabled.

You can configure Gadgets within the Homepage Editor and control their visibility in the mobile application using the “Show on mobile app” toggle.

Gadgets that are not supported in the mobile application are clearly labeled as “Web only”.

Courses and Learning Paths in Progress on the Mobile App Home Screen

When the Courses in progress or Learning paths in progress gadget is enabled for the mobile app using the toggles above, it appears on the mobile app home screen as a carousel — a horizontally scrollable row of cards, one per in-progress course or learning path. Selecting a card opens that item directly so the learner can continue right where they left off.

Notes

  • The right sidebar gadget remains locked in its closed position when viewing the Homepage Workspace.

  • Gadgets will only appear if there is information available to populate them.

    • Example: The Announcements gadget will not be shown if there are no active announcements.

  • The Featured courses and Featured learning paths gadgets only show training the learner is not already enrolled in or assigned to. Since these gadgets are meant for discovering new, not-yet-started content, they never display an enrollment status tag or a progress indicator.
