Have you seen a padlock icon on a course a user needs to access mentioning "Complete the prerequisites for this course"?
This behavior indicates that the content is locked due to a mandatory course sequence configured within a Learning Path. This is an expected system functionality designed to support structured and guided learning experiences.
What’s Happening?
A user is attempting to launch a specific course but is unable to do so because a padlock icon appears on the screen.
Reason for the Lock
The padlock icon is displayed because the course is part of a Learning Path that has a mandatory sequence enabled.
Why the Content Is Locked
This is expected and intended behavior. When a Learning Path is configured with a mandatory order, the system ensures that learners follow the prescribed sequence and do not skip required steps, preserving the integrity of the learning structure.
If a course belongs to multiple Learning Paths and at least one of them uses a mandatory sequence (Sequence set to Mandatory), the system will treat any preceding step in that Learning Path as a prerequisite.
As a result, the learner cannot access the locked course—whether from another Learning Path or as a standalone course—until the prerequisite steps in the mandatory sequence is completed.
How to Resolve the Access Restriction
To unlock the course, you can take one of the following actions:
Complete the Prerequisite Steps:
The user should navigate back to the Learning Path enforcing the mandatory sequence and complete the previous steps. Once completed, the next course will unlock across all Learning Paths and contexts.Adjust the Sequence Settings:
You can modify the Learning Path sequence from Mandatory to Suggested. After doing so, the course will become accessible without requiring completion of the preceding steps.
