Have you ever noticed that some of your training categories and the courses within them seem to vanish for your learners, even though everything appears to be set to Public? This is a common situation that points directly to the way that you have configured these training categories.
What's the Situation?
You have a comprehensive list of training categories, but when you view the content as a learner via a backdoor login, several categories and the courses they contain are missing. Everything appears to be set to Public from the administrator view, making it difficult to understand why the content isn't showing up.
The discrepancy between your full category list and what learners see is a strong indicator that the issue is related to how the categories themselves are configured to allow access.
The Recommended Solution and Guidance
Category visibility is controlled by the Read Permissions applied to that specific category. Even if a course is public, if the category that contains it restricts who can read the category, the courses inside will be hidden from those users.
The missing categories likely have special permissions assigned or simply do not have Read access enabled for all employees.
How to Check and Correct Category Permissions
To ensure a category is visible to your learners, follow these steps:
-
Access Category Settings: Navigate to your training categories management area (Academy Workspace >Training Admin > Manage Training > Training Categories).
- Select the Missing Category: Choose one of the categories that is not visible to your learners.
-
Review Permissions: Select 'Change permissions' and check the Read permissions for that category.
- Enable Visibility for Learners:
- Look for the "All Team members" group or the specific group of learners who need access.
- Ensure the "Read" checkbox is selected for that group. If the category has specific configured rules, make sure those rules include the learners you want to reach. You can also create new rules that will include the desired group of learners.
By confirming that the Read permission is enabled for the appropriate learner groups in each category, you guarantee that all public courses and their respective categories become fully visible in the course catalog.
