Multi-language Courses

Release date 05 August

You have already had the ability to create multi-language learning paths, where courses within a learning path, where available, were displayed based on the learner's preferred language.

This release adds similar functionality but without the need for the courses to be included in a learning path. Where available, the course that matches the learner's preferred language will be displayed.

This functionality provides no translation services; the courses' content must be translated by other means.

Enabling Multi-language Courses

The feature is not enabled by default. If you are interested in utilizing Multi-language courses, please ask Support or your Schoox representative to add it for your academy.

Adding Translated Versions to Courses

While editing courses, in the Course Panel on the right, there will be a new option under Edit CourseLanguages.

Selecting Languages will take you to the Languages page, where you can add as many as needed from the drop-down menu.

Select the Add button on the right to add that language to the course.

In the modal that appears, enter the translated title and description into the fields. Then decide whether you would like to copy the existing lectures and exams from the original course. These will be copied over intact in their original language, and serve as placeholders for translated versions. OJTs, events, polls, and other elements will not be copied over at this time.

Removing Translated Versions from Courses

To remove an existing translation from a course, navigate to the Languages page and select the X icon next to the language you want to delete. A confirmation dialog will appear, informing you that deleting the translation will also permanently remove all lectures and exams associated with that language version.

Translations Overview

After saving at least one alternative course version, there will be a new option in the Course Panel, under Edit CourseTranslation Overview.

Selecting Translation Overview opens a page that provides all of the alternative courses displayed side by side, along with any lectures and exams that were copied over.

Each copied lecture and exam is able to be updated with a translated version. The More menu includes options to copy the item to another language and to delete it, if needed.

When Copy to Other Languages is selected for a course step, a dialog is displayed where you can choose the target languages for the copy operation. The available options in the language dropdown are limited to languages that do not currently have a translation for the selected course step.

Items that were not copied can be added using the Add option.

Adjusting Lectures and Supplemental Material

On the Lectures and Supplemental Material pages, a new dropdown will now be visible in the top-left corner, allowing for adjustments of each language's lectures and supplemental materials independently.

By default all copied lectures will be hidden; they must be manually made visible to be seen by the learner.

At least one lecture must be visible for the translated course to appear.

The lecture options only appear in the default version, as these settings are shared across all translated versions of the course.

Adjusting Course Settings

The same behavior applies to the course settings available on the Edit General Info page. To configure course-level settings, select the default language from the Editing Language dropdown menu. When a translated language is selected, only the Course Title and Description fields are available for editing, while all other course settings remain managed through the default language version.

Adjusting Multi-language Exams

A similar Editing Language dropdown is also available on the Exams page within the Course Panel, allowing you to manage exam translations in the same manner.

There you can create new exams for each language, or replace content in copied exams.

Additionally, selecting View Translations opens a side panel, for consolidated access to similar functionality.

Tracking Progress in My Team Dashboard

In My Team Dashboard, when tracking progress for the course, there is now a new column, which displays the language in which the course was assigned to the learners.

NOTE: When either a new translated course is introduced or if a learner changes their preferred language to an existing course's language option, progress for that course will reset to zero. All certificates will be retained, but the progress will reset.
