An embedded communication tool for collaboration is now available, giving Managers with the View & Assign Goal permission enabled the ability to create individual goals for their employees.
Note: In order to be able to create and assign goals it is a prerequisite that both you and the assignees have a job assigned and that your job has the View & Assign Goals permission turned on. See more about Job Permissions here: Defining Permissions per Job
There are multiple goal types you can use, with more information found here: Goal Types
This article focusses on creating Organizational Goals. For more info on Team Goal, go to: Creating a Team Goal
In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Team Workspace.
When in the Team Workspace, select Goals and then select Organizational Goals.
Under Organizational goals, users with a managerial job (Head of, Assistant Head of, or a custom job with permissions) that have the "View & Assign Goal" permission can see the organizational goals related to their org structure and are able to create organizational goals.
Select the Create goal button to create a new goal. If this button does not show up, make sure your job has the Assign & View Goals permission turned on. Administrators and HR managers do not have access to this functionality by default.
You will be redirected to the Edit Goal info page where you have to add some basic information for your goal!
As a first step, you will need to assign the goal to a specific (Above)Unit.
Please note that the list of (Above) Units that you will be able to see depends on the settings applied for your academy. As an example, if you are a Unit Manager, you will be able to select only your Unit as there are no other org nodes under your org structure.
Choose the org node the goal applies to from the Assign to dropdown (this field is required). When you edit an existing goal, the same field is labeled Assigned to.
Which org nodes you can choose here depends on your academy's assign-goal permission setting:
- Entire sub-organization — you can select your own org node (Unit or Above Unit) and any (Above) Unit below it, no matter how many levels down.
- Direct reports one level below — you can select your own org node plus the (Above) Units exactly one level below it. Org nodes more than one level down are not selectable.
- Own org node only — you can select only your own org node. No child org nodes are selectable.
If you are eligible to create a goal under more than one managerial job, a required Create goal as dropdown also appears, listing each managerial job for which you have the assign-goal permission. Select the job you are creating the goal under. If you only have one such job, this dropdown does not appear and there is nothing extra to choose.
Αdd a title and a short description of the goal and define its type (numeric or not, increasing or not, etc.). Connect the goal with a specific Pillar and/or Area if needed, add the current and the target value and define a specific due date if desired.
The description field is a rich-text editor, so you can format your text as you write it. Note that images and videos can't be attached in the description.
When you select a Pillar, the Area dropdown shows a Select Area placeholder followed by the areas belonging to that pillar. Choosing an area is optional — you can save the goal without one.
For the Start date and Due date fields, the date pickers keep the two dates consistent for you. The earliest Start date you can select is today, and past dates are disabled. Once a Due date is set, the Start date can't be later than it (the two can be the same day), and the Due date can't be earlier than the Start date. If a change to one date makes the other invalid, that other field is cleared so you can pick a new value.
Select if you want the goal to follow the assignees in any organizational or/and job change or if it should stay only with the assignees who match the assignment criteria- practically, select what should happen if the user loses this org level and job.
The manager who oversees the goal (its supervisor) is now determined automatically from your organizational structure — the managers directly above the assigned org node — so there's no supervisor to choose during creation. This stays accurate over time: if someone changes role or leaves, oversight moves to whoever takes over the relevant position.
Save once finished.
When you select Save, a confirmation appears letting you know there may be more than one assignee, because the assignees will be the managers of the selected org node. Select Save to confirm, or Cancel to go back.
The goal has been created!
On the About page of the goal, you can have a preview of all of the details you added during the creation along with the current progress. Users that have a common goal assigned, have also the option to use a chat box in order to communicate with each other.
Please note that the above setting can't be changed after the goal is created. That's because when creating a "Stay goal" the goal is connected both with the user and the org node the user belongs to however when creating a "Follow goal" you connect the goal only with the user.
You can also create some tasks for you that will help you achieve the Goal, you can add some files/links that are related to this goal, and you can also associate specific courses, if needed. Just click on the relevant tab and complete the setup of your goal!
You can also create a badge that will be awarded to the Managers once the goal has been accomplished:
When you edit an existing organizational goal, you can also delete or archive it. Selecting Delete goal opens a confirmation titled Delete this goal? with the note This can't be undone. Selecting Archive goal opens a confirmation titled Archive this goal? with the note Once archived, it can't be edited.
Last but not least, you can also cascade your goals and ask teams from one level below to contribute to an organizational goal. To do so, click on the Cascaded tab and select Cascade goal:
