Creating a Microlearning Course

Sometimes the best way to learn is in small blocks. Enter Microlearning, a way to help your team members learn new information in small doses, over a period of time, almost like flashcards. Using text, images, questions, and stacks (a combination of text or image and a question), users can now quickly go over information and learn new skills!

Enabling Microlearning

Note: Microlearning needs to be enabled by Schoox first before you can enable it in your Academy.

In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Academy Workspace.

When in the Academy Workspace, select Training Admin for all Training Administration options.

Select Settings and then select Control Panel.

Use the search bar, or scroll down, to find Microlearning and switch on the toggle next to Turn on microlearning in this academy.

Creating Microlearning

When in the Academy Workspace, select Training Admin.

Select Manage Training and then select Microlearning.

Here you can see all current Microlearning courses, as well as create new ones. Click on Create Microlearning to start.

Creating Microlearning from Scratch

On the next screen, if you have AI enabled, you will see two options. To manually create a new Microlearning, click on Start from scratch and select Start Designing.

In the next screen, fill out all the required information. The Title, Language and Training Category are mandatory fields.

In the next step, you can design your Microlearning course. You have the option to add text, images, and questions. You can also add stacks, which function like flashcards.

After you added your cards, select Save on the top, and click on Preview to get a preview of your Microlearning course.

When you are happy with your Microlearning content, select Configure to move to the next step.

Creating Microlearning with AI

If in the Settings you opted in for the AI for Microlearning, you can create Microlearning courses with the help of AI. When you select Create Microlearning, instead of Start from scratch, select Use AI.

In the first screen, fill out the options. Make sure to give it a descriptive title, because this is where the AI gets most of their information fromThe cards will automatically be created based on your preferences, description, and the tone of voice you selected. In this example, there will be four text cards, four question cards, and three stack cards

You can now manually change the cards, and add or remove cards and stacks. When happy, click on Save.

Creating Microlearning (continued)

The following steps are the same both for AI and from Scratch.

The next step is all about mapping skills. You can learn more about skills in this article: Skills, Assessments, and Career Paths

Select the skills from the list, and click on Continue.

The next screen gives you the option to schedule the Microlearning. This way, instead of going through all the cards at once, the cards are only made available on the select days.

Let's say you have ten cards and make them available on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 1pm and 1.30pm, at an interval of once an hour. This means only one card is released each Monday and each Wednesday, giving the Microlearning five weeks to finish.

If you set them up in an interval of once every half an hour, using the same times, two cards will be made available each day.

You can also set up a special interval for stacks. This can be Instant, as in they are instantly available when the user gets to it, or at a special time for that stack. For example, if you set the interval for cards for 10 minutes, but the stack for instant, the stack is immediately available after the last card - instead of ten minutes later.

The last step is to set the visibility. Choose your preference and click Publish to publish your Microlearning course.
