Use Case Scenario
Let’s consider a course with an exam configured to allow a maximum of 2 attempts.
Below are the configuration settings used in this scenario:
If a learner fails both attempts, the system is set up to automatically reassign the entire course. This reassignment occurs immediately after the final failed attempt.
What Happens to the Failed Exam Attempts?
When a user is reassigned to a course, the system handles exam attempt data differently depending on the course completion status:
-
If the user has completed the course before being obliged to retake it:
The exam attempts are saved and can be found under the Past Completions section on the user’s Dashboard and in relevant reports.
-
If the user has not completed the course:
The exam attempts are not retained by the system when the user is obliged to retake the course.
As a result, failed exam attempts are not included in any exported reports.
Key Takeaway
If the user did not complete the course, their previous failed exam attempts will not be available for reporting purposes after the course is reassigned.
