Taking a Course That’s Part of a Learning Path

When you open a course that is also included in one or more Learning Paths you’re enrolled in, Schoox automatically directs you based on your access to the course.

If the course is available to you, the Course Experience page opens directly. You do not need to choose whether to take the course as a standalone course or through a Learning Path.

If the course is not available yet because of Learning Path lock rules, Schoox takes you to the Course About page. From there, you may see a message explaining why the course is not currently available and which Learning Path step you need to take next.

What You’ll See

  • When the course is available, Schoox opens the course directly in the Course Experience page.

  • When the course is not available because of Learning Path lock rules, Schoox opens the Course About page and may display a message explaining that the course is connected to one or more Learning Paths.

You will be asked to select a Learning Path so Schoox can take you to the first available step in that path.

  • Only Learning Paths that currently restrict your access are displayed. For example, a Learning Path may appear if the course is locked because of prerequisites, mandatory sequence rules, or scheduler rules.

  •  Learning Paths that do not currently block access are not shown in this message.

How Progress Is Tracked

Courses can be shared across multiple Learning Paths. When you complete a course, Schoox automatically recognizes that completion and applies it toward any applicable Learning Path progress.

This helps keep your progress consistent and prevents you from needing to repeat the same course unnecessarily. Reporting and tracking remain consistent regardless of where the course is launched from.

Understanding Why a Course Is Locked

When you try to open a course that is not yet available, Schoox displays information explaining why the course is currently locked and what you need to do next.

If the course belongs to one or more Learning Paths, the message will list the Learning Paths that currently affect your access. Select one of the displayed Learning Paths and continue to be taken to the first available step.

Common Reasons a Course May Be Locked

1. You have no access at the steps of this course. This course is part of a learning path with prerequisites.

Some courses require other training to be completed first.

What to do: Complete the required prerequisite training to unlock the course.

2. Courses from this learning path need to be completed in order. Make sure you complete all courses before this course.

Certain learning paths must be completed in a specific mandatory order.

What to do: Complete the preceding courses in the learning path before accessing this course.

3. This course is scheduled to open after the previous course completion in the learning path.

A course may be configured to become available after a waiting period following completion of a previous course.

What to do: Wait until the scheduled availability period has passed. The message will indicate when the course is expected to become available.

4. Complete the prerequisites first.

The course may belong to a learning path that contains steps you have not yet completed.

What to do: To take this course, you’ll need to complete all prerequisites from this course.

5. Due date missed

Access to the course may be restricted after the assigned due date.

What to do: Contact your manager or administrator if you need access restored.

6. This course isn’t available right now

In some situations, course content may be temporarily unavailable for viewing. This can occur when:

  • The course has been configured with restricted access settings.
  • The course is configured to require a retake before learners can access its content again. This occurs when the "Retake is required to view steps. Enables self-retake option for users" option is selected under Multiple completions are allowed in the Edit General Info page of the Course Panel.

What to do:
If the course requires a retake, complete the retake to restore access to the course content. If access restrictions have been configured for the course, contact your administrator for assistance.
