Taking a Course That’s Part of a Learning Path

When you start a course that’s also included in a Learning Path you’re enrolled in, you may notice a quick prompt asking how you’d like to take it. This is an intentional part of the learning experience and is designed to give you flexibility while keeping your progress fully aligned.

What You’ll See

If a course belongs to one or more Learning Paths you’re enrolled in, a modal appears asking you to choose between:

  • Taking the course as a standalone course, or

  • Taking the course as part of the Learning Path

This choice simply affects how the learning experience is presented to you—it does not change how progress or completion is tracked.

How Each Option Works

Standalone course experience
When you choose this option, you’ll focus only on the course itself. You won’t see the other steps in the Learning Path, which can be helpful if you want to concentrate on a single piece of content.

Learning Path experience
When you take the course through the Learning Path, you’ll see all the steps in the path. This makes it easy to continue directly to the next step once you complete the course.

How Progress Is Tracked

No matter which option you choose, your completion is always applied to the Learning Path. Courses are shared across multiple Learning Paths, and the system automatically recognizes completed courses and updates your progress accordingly. This ensures consistency and helps you avoid repeating the same content.

Reporting and tracking remain the same regardless of how the course is launched.

Can This Prompt Be Disabled?

At this time, the selection prompt is part of the platform’s learning experience and cannot be turned off. It’s designed to give learners control over how they move through their training while keeping Learning Path progress accurate and up to date.

Best Practice

Encourage learners to:

  • Choose the Learning Path option if they plan to continue through the full path in sequence.

  • Choose the standalone option if they want to focus on a single course while still receiving credit toward their Learning Path.

Both paths lead to the same completion results—it’s simply a matter of how learners prefer to experience their training.
