Academy administrators and training managers can now turn the Annotations feature on or off for their entire academy.
Annotations let learners highlight text, add notes, and create clips in document and video lectures — and now you decide whether that capability is part of the learning experience you offer.
One Setting, Academy-Wide Control
A new setting, Turn on annotations in this academy, is available under Settings > Training > Courses. It's enabled by default, so nothing changes in your academy unless you choose to turn it off. When it's on, learners get the full annotations experience across lectures.
When it's off, annotation tools and the related gadgets and options are hidden throughout the academy — a clean way to align the feature with your organization's training and compliance needs.
A nested option, Allow learners to make their annotations public, stays available only while the master setting is on — turn the master setting off and this option turns off and becomes unavailable too. Enabling it requires a confirmation before proceeding.
Disabling the Setting
Disabling annotations academy-wide hides the feature everywhere learners and admins would normally see it:
- The annotations side panel and tools inside document and video lectures
- The My Annotations homepage gadget, and its entry in the Homepage Editor's Add gadget dropdown
- The My Annotations stream on the My Training Overview page and on a course's About page
- The per-lecture options to create clips from audio and video lectures and to make annotations public
Your setting choice also carries over automatically when you use Copy Academy, so a copied academy starts with the same annotations configuration as its source.
