Do Manager Notifications Work Differently for Upcoming Course vs. Learning Path Due Dates?

When it comes to notifying managers about upcoming due dates for their team members, different logic is applied depending on whether the due date is related to a course or a learning path. This article outlines the key differences between the two notification types to help clarify expected behavior.

1. Manager Notification About Employees’ Course Due Date

This notification is designed to keep managers informed about their employees’ upcoming course deadlines. The following logic applies:

  • Consolidated Emails:
Notifications may include multiple users and courses in a single message, depending on due dates and configuration.

  • Grouping Logic:
Whether users and courses are grouped together in one email depends on:

    • The configuration of the scheduled notification

    • The individual due dates of each user

  • Multiple Reminders on the Same Day:
If the notification is scheduled with both “Days Before” and “Hours Before” settings, separate emails may be sent on the same day.

This occurs because each setting triggers its own run of the notification job (cronjob), and the system does not consolidate these into a single message.

2. Manager Notification About Employees’ Learning Path Due Date

This notification is tailored to inform managers about employees’ upcoming Learning Path deadlines. The logic differs in the following ways:

  • Learning Path-Specific Emails:
Each email is specific to a single Learning Path. If a manager oversees employees with due dates in multiple curricula, they will receive separate emails—one for each Learning Path.

  • No Cross-Learning Path Consolidation:
The system does not consolidate learning path notifications across multiple curricula, even if the due dates are scheduled on the same day.

  • Email Content:
The email content and any included links refer directly to the specific Learning Path, typically pointing to its dashboard for quick reference and action.
