Sometimes the best way to learn is in small blocks. Enter Microlearning, a way to help your team members learn new information in small doses, over a period of time, almost like flashcards. Using text, images, questions, and stacks (a combination of text or image and a question), users can now quickly go over information and learn new skills.
If you've elected to utilize Schoox's Intelligent Learning Platform in your academy, artificial intelligence can assist in building micro-courses with your guidance.
Please note that AI work should always be verified by your academy's subject matter experts.
Enabling AI in Microlearning
In the left navigation, make sure you are in the Academy Workspace.
When in the Academy Workspace, select Settings.
On the left, select the Training filter type.
To enable AI- specific options, ensure that the Turn on AI features toggle is activated in your Microlearning Academy settings. If you only see Create AI from Scratch, please let Support or your representative know.
If these options are not visible in your environment, please contact your Schoox representative or the Schoox Support Team for assistance.
Select How AI Can Help
When in the Academy Workspace, select Training Admin.
Select Manage Training and then select Microlearning.
You can have up to four options when it comes to creating a micro-course — manually, from scratch using AI, from a specific course using AI, and from specific resources using AI.
Select Create from scratch (AI) to have AI generate the initial structure and content of your micro-course, which you can then review and refine as needed. AI will gather any information it can find from the internet, based on your company name and industry listed on your academy's branding page.
You also have the option to create micro-courses by leveraging existing content within your academy. Use Create from course (AI) to generate a micro-course based on an existing course, or select Create from resources (AI) to build one using available resources. You will be taken through the process of choosing the specific course and resources to use. Not all resources are available to be read by AI; those that are will have check boxes. Otherwise, the process is the same as described below.
Designing the Micro-course
The first thing that needs to be done is to describe your needs, so that AI understands what kind of micro-course it should build. The title, description, company name, and industry are important, as AI needs to understand who, specifically your organization is and what you need in a micro-course.
- Title: The name of the micro-course
- Description: A description on what the micro-course is about — the more details you can provide AI, the better
- Company Name: Changing this value will override what is listed on your academy's branding page
- Industry: Your company's industry - Changing this value will override what is listed on your academy's branding page
- Skills: Select academy skills that should be added to the course, if you are utilizing skills
- Language: The language the micro-course uses
- Training Category: The category the micro-course is in
- Number of each type of card: The ideal number of each you'd like to see. AI will do its best within these parameter, but may give you more or less.
- Estimated time: The length in time you'd like the micro-course to take. It is not mandatory, and the number of cards override the length in the AI's process.
- Content Complexity: Controls how simple or advanced the language and explanations are. Does not change what is taught—only how it’s explained. Select When should I use each level? to learn more.
- Content Density: Controls how much information fits on each card. Short cards are faster to consume. Longer cards allow more explanation and nuance. Select When should I use each level? to learn more. Select the Preview button to see examples.
- Writing Style: Controls how the content sounds (friendly vs formal), not what it teaches.Select When should I use each level? to learn more.
- Learning Focus: Controls whether the course prioritizes explanations, on-the-job application, or assessment checks. Select When should I use each level? to learn more.
- Tags: Tags can help users easily find the micro-course.
- External ID: The ID used to share it. You may need an external ID in your organization.
All the information you add will be taken into account when creating the course.
When finished, select Create Micro-course
Micro-course Planning
AI will start to create a plan, based on the information you gave in the previous step. When it's finished, it will provide you with a proposed plan that you can review, adjust, and generate when happy.
The phases of the plan describe the different levels of complexity throughout the learning process, from foundational to mastery. Foundational information covers the basics, whereas mastery covers the most advanced ideas in the micro-course.
The types of cards used in each phase are also represented by the various colors.
Feel free to use the ready action plan Apply buttons or the Phase lean & quick action sliders to adjust these factors to best suit your vision for the micro-course.
You will see the affects of your adjustments in real time.
You can also review what is included in each phase below.
You can also view each phase's details to learn more. A panel will appear from the left showing you what the AI has in mind.
Lastly, brand-specific terms are important in your training. The terms the AI picked up in its research will be listed at the bottom of the page, but you can add more when editing the course plan.
Editing the Course Plan
When happy, select Generate. This will tell the AI to go ahead and create all the cards associated with the plan you just reviewed.
If you'd like to make any edits to the actual plan, select Edit course plan.
Switch between the phases at the top of the page. Feel free to make any adjustments as needed. You can also add brand-specific terms on the right.
Errors will be pointed out, and you can address them as needed.
After generating the cards, it is best practice to review each. Adjust and edit the cards as needed, and publish it. Find out more here.
Note that card content may look truncated, but will appear correctly to the learner.
